Keep your Cool this summer with these money saving tips!
- Planting trees to the east and west for shade can cool your home by as much as 20°.
- Install an Energy Star ceiling fan. This can keep your home 4° cooler.
- Cool your home naturally by closing shades during the day, open windows on cool
- summer nights.
- Grill outdoors instead of using the oven
Plumbing
- Drain your water heater once every 6 months to prolong it's service life.
- Shut water off to silcocks for winter.
- Add a blanket to your water heater to save energy.
- Periodically check all plumbing fixtures for small leaks or problems to conserve water.
H.V.A.C
- Clean furnaces and or boilers once a year to prolong their service life.
- Check furnace air filter monthly.
- Set thermostat back at night in heating system to conserve energy.
- Make sure heating systems or radiators are not blocked by any objects.
- Change batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
Tips for Winter Vacations!
- Always leave heat set to 60 degrees at the minimum!
- Have the house checked daily if possible.
- Make sure all silcocks and other outside fixtures are turned off for the season
Tips for the Fall!
- Air Conditioning - Shut off power to condenser at breaker if it is an outdoor unit. Most condensers have an internal heater which keeps the oil warm. This will draw rodents and other critters. These animals will make nests and hibernate for the winter causing damage to the condenser.
- Prepare for the winter by installing storm windows or other heat saving devices.
